Description

Type curves are an important part of evaluating the resources of an oil and gas asset. In the RAI Basic Type Curve Analysis, well declines are aggregated to determine typical behavior of a well ensemble. Well ensembles usually reflect a reservoir or set of analog reservoirs that will help determine characteristic behavior. In this template, a decline model is built for the group of wells which can then be stored and compared to other type curve regions.

Installation

A template is an analysis file created in TIBCO Spotfire. The intended use is to replace the data and utilize the configured visualizations and calculations.

  1. Download the template to your personal machine. Login into your own Spotfire server and open the downloaded file.
  2. Review the tables shown on the data load page. These are the tables you'll replace.
  3. Replace the data with another Excel sheet or connect the template directly to your database or platform.
  4. Customize with your own data. You are free to embed and incorporate your template into other projects.
  5. All done!

Spotfire Templates are provided as is and do not require licenses.

  • Can this tool forecast only groups of wells or single wells? Can you store the parameters for each curve? Can you limit the parameters? What fitting criteria or methods will it use?

    • Hi Ryan – the tool can build a curve for groups of wells or single wells, just depends on the number of wells you mark. When you store that curve (whether for one or multiple wells), it will save the parameters associated with it in the results tables. You could save these results to a database or to a flat file (like Excel).

      It fits the Arps model. What models were you looking for?

  • Is the the initial decline the initial nominal decline or is it effective decline. Is there a sheet to see the calculations.

  • Is it compatible with older version of Spotfire (ver 5/6)

  • Hi! Decline curves are usually donw in semi-log plots. does this template use semi-log plot as well? Is there flexibility as far as model type for the user to select, there are 5-6 different decline models most commonly used?

    • Hi Nurken- The template uses semi-logy to show the decline fits. Spotfire semi-log looks a lot like linear scale in the pictures. As per decline models, this template provides the modified arps, which includes exponential, arps, and the modified-arps method (using the constraints options).

        One other question – we’d like to incorporate wellbore diagrams for each well and well history. wellbore diagrams are stored in microsoft visio/word/image (png, jpg) files and history is in excels. what will be the best to do this? we’d like to have it on the same spotfire file.
