Teapot Exploitation Strategies


Exploitation strategies regards the methods of extracting the oil. In the Teapot dome asset, we compare the BOPD to Cumulative Oil to demonstrate pattern performance. This workbook shows the performance of oil in the Teapot dome asset and also the degree of water content in each volume of oil. The data is organized by patterns, evaluating performance based on barrels of oil products.


  • BOPD versus Cumulative is a common way of determining asset performance.
  • The fluid sample indicates the points of coning, percentage of water content of the fluid as a percentage in each respective pattern from 1974 to present.
  • The map chart shows the well to pattern relationships spatially.

Required Data

This template uses publicly available Teapot Dome production data.


A workbook is an embedded file created in Tableau Desktop. The intended use is to replace the data and utilize the configured visualizations and calculations.

  1. Open the original workbook that contains the worksheets you want to connect to the new data source.
  2. Select Data > Connect to Data to connect to the new data source.
  3. After connecting to the new data source, select Data > Replace Data Source.
  4. In the Replace Data Source dialog box, select the existing data source as Current and the new data source as the Replacement data source, and then click OK.
  5. Season workbook to taste.
